Thanks to our Tournament Director along with the entire TABC Staff and the Zapata Chamber of Commerce the tournament was a great success. Of course this couldn’t have happened without the participation of the twenty six teams throughout the entire state of Texas.  A special thanks to Legend Boats for their sponsorship and providing the weigh-in trailer.  They along with Marine Outlet  provided tournament shirts for all participants. We also thank American Rodsmiths who provided 8 custom made rods  to the winning team members as well as additional gifts.   Additional sponsors were Sure Life who spent many hours keeping the bass alive until they could be returned to the lake and to Minn Kota who provided a 3 bank battery charger for the door prize. Thanks again to all our sponsors.

The tournament results were outstanding.  The San Antonio Bass Club weighed in a total of 110.49 pounds to capture first place honors and become the TABC Top 8 Champions for 2007.  They received $3564, Plaques, American Rodsmith rods,  jackets for each team member and the traveling trophy. The jackets and traveling trophy will be presented to them at their club meeting. 

TABC is happy to announce we paid back 100% of the entry fees as position money.  Money and/or awards were presented to the top 8 teams.  Second through eighth place ranged from 103.93 to 83.11 pounds. Overall there were 765 bass weighed in for a total weight of 2250.22 pounds.  This gave us an average weight of 2.94 pounds per bass. Big Bass of the tournament weighed 10.32 pounds which was caught by Carlton Yarbrough of the Austin Christian Bass Club .  Another member of this same team was 80 year old Al Lykins who caught the biggest bass of his life with an 8.89 pounder.  This was the second biggest bass for Sunday but unfortunately he was not in the big bass pot.

First and second Big Bass Awards (side pot) were presented for Saturday and Sunday.  The winners were:

Saturday:  1^st place was Brad wright/ Cory Leita of the

        Coleto Bassmasters with 9.24 lbs.  ($576)

      2^nd place was Ken Anderson/James Piper of

     the Bastrop County Bass Club with 9.03 lbs.

    ($384)

Sunday:   1^st place was Carl Adkins/Stan Miller of the

     Canyon Bass Club with 8.71 lbs. ($576)

2^nd place was Jim Harrison/Terry Gish of the

River City Bass Club with 8.63 lbs. ($384)

 The Hub City West Texas Anglers from Lubbock, Texas were recognized for longest drive to the tournament.  They traveled over 600 miles (one way) which took more than nine hours.  Each member of the team was presented a tackle bag that was provided by American Rodsmiths.

The feedback from the clubs was very positive with suggestions for an even better tournament next year.  It is the type of feedback we desire “as we want our tournament to be the best in the state” which is a direct quote from the President of TABC, Ed Calderone.  Hope to see everyone next year.
